Germany is interested in hearing from Snowden.

"If the message is that Mr. Snowden has things to tell us, then we are perfectly willing to listen," said German Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich; Chancellor Angela Merkel's government was also spied on by US agencies, and she herself may have had her cell phone monitored for ten years.

Brasilia - The German government today (1st) expressed interest in hearing from former consultant hired to provide services to the United States National Security Agency (NSA), Edward Snowden, regarding the alleged wiretapping of Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"If the message is that Mr. Snowden has things to tell us, then we are perfectly willing to listen," said Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich.

Last week, following allegations of espionage reported by the international press, Germany has been working in various ways to try to prevent, or at least regulate, cases related to internet privacy and communications. This morning, Germany and Brazil announced the submission of a draft resolution on the subject to the United Nations.

Edward Snowden's lawyer in Russia, Anatoly Kucherena, announced today that his client is willing and able to be questioned by German prosecutors about the alleged US wiretapping of Merkel's cell phone.

Kucherena said the hearing would have to be held in Russia because Snowden cannot leave Russian territory or risk losing the temporary asylum granted to him by the country in August for one year.
