Sputnik - The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden engaged in censorship and regulation of social media, reveals an investigation by Louisiana and Missouri attorneys general Jeff Landry and Eric Schmitt, respectively.

"The communications presented show a vast 'censorship enterprise' among several federal agencies. Forty-five federal employees were identified as having communicated with social media platforms regarding 'misinformation' and censorship," the joint statement from the authorities said.

According to the document, the White House, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of the Treasury, the Federal Election Commission, and the U.S. Census Bureau regularly interacted with leaders of major social media platforms, including Meta (an extremist company banned in Russia) and Twitter.

Prosecutors also allege that the Department of Justice refused to provide full information about the interaction of high-ranking federal officials with the owners of social media networks, limiting itself to individual communications.

"Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt filed a joint petition in federal court demanding that the Department of Justice hand over communications between senior Biden administration officials, the White House, the State Department, the FBI, and other entities with major social media outlets," they said in a statement.

According to one of the investigation materials, dated July 2021, a representative of Facebook (a platform belonging to the extremist company Meta, banned in Russia) directly points to having met with White House officials to discuss issues of combating "misinformation": "Our teams met today to better understand the list of what is expected of us, the White House, regarding misinformation."

Other messages posted include communications about the dissemination of information regarding the coronavirus.

American social media platforms have been criticized for censoring and restricting the freedom to disseminate information, according to the interests of the country's authorities.

One of the most recent examples was the acknowledgment by the owner of Meta (an extremist company banned in Russia), Mark Zuckerberg, who announced the FBI's requests before the 2020 presidential election to curb the dissemination on platforms under his control of content related to Hunter Biden, son of President Biden.
