247 - The social network X, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, has once again publicly criticized the Minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes. This Friday (8), the platform declared its support for the sanctions imposed by the United States against the magistrate. The information was released by CNN Brasil, which reproduced a statement published on the “Global Government Affairs” profile of the social network itself.

In the text, X states that Brazil is facing a “crisis against freedom of expression” and praises the current president of the United States, Donald Trump, for measures considered “bold” to protect this right as a “pillar of democracy.” “In an era where government regulations threaten global discourse, X applauds the Trump administration’s bold actions to safeguard freedom of expression,” the company stated.

The statement cites the social network's ban in Brazil, ordered by Moraes in 2024, and accuses the minister of leading "a campaign of censorship and violation of due process." According to the platform, the measure was motivated by the refusal to comply with "secret orders" to remove content from politicians and journalists—including American citizens—who criticized the magistrate and his allies.

“Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes led a campaign of censorship and violation of due process, including the banning, in 2024, of X for refusing to comply with secret orders to remove politicians and journalists, including Americans, who criticized Moraes and his allies,” states the text released by X.

The company also criticized similar initiatives to regulate social media in other countries. In the European Union, for example, the Digital Services Act was described as "a global censorship tool" that would violate freedom of expression. Australia and India were also mentioned as nations advancing policies considered restrictive.

The statement argues that the United States is waging “a global battle to defend freedom of expression against a rising tide of autocratic decisions” and concludes that such actions are essential to “preserve the internet and inspire free speech around the world.”

The sanctions against Moraes were applied by the American government based on the Magnitsky Act, which allows for the punishment of foreigners accused of corruption or human rights violations. The US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, accused the magistrate of "assuming the role of judge and jury in an illegal witch hunt against American and Brazilian citizens and companies."
