A grant for the 'mainstream press'
The federal government needs to take some action to help cure this collective depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder that the "mainstream media" is experiencing. It could create a "Prozac Grant."
There will be power outages; the Brazilian economy will always be a fiasco; the drought will also be more severe, and our image abroad will be tarnished as long as the PT and its allies are in the Presidency of the Republic.
This is the mantra that the "mainstream press" insists on repeating day after day to Brazilians. Paulo Henrique Amorim claims on his blog that this is provocation. It may well be, but it's a mix of depression stemming from successive electoral defeats and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in the attempt to destroy a former president and his party.
The hatred for all social policies implemented in Brazil and the praise for their copies in the US and Europe illustrate this disease well. Besides the coup-mongering, the "mainstream media" is sick. And many people have already realized this, including capitalists.
According to a survey by the Davos Economic Forum, Brazil ranks 4th in executive optimism. Nobody reads the major newspapers anymore, nor watches Globo. And all this began with a lowly lathe operator in the Presidency of the Republic. Lula is more frightening to the "mainstream media" than Freddy Krueger is to the teenagers he torments in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" movies.
If we had true democracy in communications here, this unhealthy version of the reality surrounding us wouldn't seem like a unanimous discourse. Even with credibility already at rock bottom, there are still those who say that "everyone" says Brazil is doing badly.
These people certainly don't access the internet. Or if they do, they only do so on "mainstream media" websites. They've already been infected by its OCD.
However, a humanist spirit must prevail. The federal government needs to take some action to help cure this collective depression and the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder that plagues the "mainstream media." It could create a "Prozac Grant." The criteria for receiving it would be to be a columnist for Folha, Estadão, Veja, and Globo.
