The latest "News of the World" sells 4,5 million copies.

British tabloid owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch ends 168-year history after illegal phone hacking scandal.

247 – The British newspaper The Guardian announced that the latest edition of "News of the World" reached 4,5 million copies sold. Embroiled in allegations involving illegal wiretapping, the Sunday edition concludes, at least for now, a 168-year history. The performance was only surpassed by the record set in February 1998, when 4.543.457 copies were sold on a single Sunday. The publication does not confirm this number.

This morning, British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg urged newspaper owner Rupert Murdoch to reconsider News Corporation's $12 billion offer to acquire British Sky Broadcasting, one of the UK's most profitable companies.

"Rupert Murdoch is now in London trying to sort things out. What I can say is: 'look how the people feel about this, look how the country reacted with disgust to these revelations,'" added the deputy prime minister.
