Subscription TV now reaches more than 14 million homes.

The service has gained 1,5 million new customers this year alone, according to data from Anatel.

Agency Brazil – The pay-TV sector registered more than 1,5 million new subscriptions this year. In May, the country reached 14,3 million households with pay-TV, representing 24,1% of households in the country, according to the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel).

The sector grew by 2,41% compared to April 2012 and by 31,47% compared to May 2011. According to Anatel, 3,4 million new subscriptions were registered in the last 12 months. Considering the average number of 3,3 people per household reported by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), pay TV currently reaches approximately 47,1 million Brazilians.

In May, satellite services accounted for 57,7% of the subscriber base, while cable services reached 40,9%.
