Singer: With Temer, little will remain of the social programs.
In an article published this Saturday, André Singer warns of the risk of almost total destruction of social programs under a Michel Temer government; "If structural changes of this magnitude were to occur, despite the relevance of Bolsa Família for Brazilians at the base of the pyramid, the legacy of Lula's policies may be reduced only to niches of extreme need."
247 - No artigo "What will be left?"According to journalist André Singer, under Michel Temer, only the Bolsa Família program will be preserved among the social programs.
Singer strongly condemns the proposal to set a ceiling for public spending, as advocated by Minister Henrique Meirelles. The consequences, should the PEC (Proposed Constitutional Amendment) pass in Congress, seem drastic. To give just one illustrative example, a renowned economist from the PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) recently stated that, should the current Finance Minister succeed, the cuts to education will be so significant that charging tuition at public universities will become almost inevitable," he says.
"If structural changes of this magnitude were to occur, despite the importance of Bolsa Família for Brazilians at the base of the pyramid, the legacy of Lula's policies might be reduced to only those in extreme need."
