On March 1st, Google decided to block the YouTube channels of RT and the Sputnik news agency in Europe; however, the block now extends to all regions of the world.

YouTube is immediately blocking access worldwide to channels associated with Russian state-funded media, the company said on Friday (11), citing a policy that prohibits content that denies or trivializes well-documented violent events.

The video streaming service, owned by Google, said that the Russian special military operation in Ukraine is now under its policy on violent events.

"Our Community Guidelines prohibit content that denies, minimizes, or trivializes well-documented violent events, and we have removed content about Russia's invasion of Ukraine that violates this policy. Accordingly, effective immediately, we are also blocking YouTube channels associated with Russian state-funded media globally," said YouTube spokesperson Farshad Shadloo.
