Reuters - OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, released a preview of its latest language model, GPT-4.5, last Thursday (27). It will be gradually made available to users with a paid plan.

According to the company, GPT-4.5 has an enhanced ability to recognize patterns, generate creative insights, and demonstrate greater "emotional intelligence."

The startup also said that the model has a lower rate of "hallucinations," a common problem where large language models generate incorrect information.

At 37,1%, the hallucination rate of GPT-4.5 is lower than the 61,8% shown in GPT-4, and the 44% displayed in GPT-1, which were the company's most recent reasoning models.

GPT-4.5 supports file and image uploads and can also work on writing and coding projects, but it does not yet support other advanced features such as voice and video.

Backed by Microsoft, OpenAI said it will begin rolling out GPT-4.5 to ChatGPT Plus and Team users next week, and to Enterprise and Edu users the following week.

The company's CEO, Sam Altman, said it's "a gigantic and expensive model," explaining that the company ran out of GPU (graphics processing unit) capacity to implement the new feature for all user levels simultaneously.

"We will be adding tens of thousands of GPUs next week... this is not how we want to operate, but it is difficult to perfectly predict the growth spikes that lead to GPU shortages," said Altman.
