Ombudsman points to pro-Marina manipulation in the latest Datafolha poll.

"In my opinion, besides making a mistake in editing the Datafolha poll, the newspaper missed the chance to transform the poll results into an in-depth and relevant topic: trying to explain how and why Lula performed better than in the last poll when he has been almost daily the subject of negative news," says journalist Paula Cesarino Costa, regarding the Datafolha poll, which attempted to hide the growth of former president Lula in all scenarios.

247 - Folha's manipulation of the latest Datafolha poll (read here), in which former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is gaining ground in all scenarios, was criticized this Sunday by newspaper ombudsman.

"The research was presented to readers in the following way, in the December 12th edition: 'Marina leads in all second-round scenarios,' read the front-page headline. The subtitle completed it: 'Lula rises in the first round compared to the July poll, but maintains high rejection, says Datafolha,'" she says. "As is easy to see, the approach taken by the editorial staff was convoluted and even included an error in the title reproduced above—not corrected by the editorial staff until the completion of this text."

The most important phenomenon captured by the research, however, was another: Lula's growth, despite the onslaught he has been subjected to by the media-judiciary alliance.

"In my opinion, besides making a mistake in editing the Datafolha poll, the newspaper missed the chance to transform the poll results into an in-depth and relevant topic: trying to explain how and why Lula performed better than in the last poll if he has been almost daily the subject of negative news," she says.
