Does the iPad threaten your job?
American politician Jesse Jackson Jr. points to Apple's tablet and businessman Steve Jobs as responsible for the elimination of jobs in the US.
247 – After the Industrial Revolution was pointed out as the enemy of jobs worldwide in the 18th century, now it's the iPad's turn. And its creator, Steve Jobs. American Democratic politician Jesse Jackson Jr., from Illinois, is the one who created the theory. According to him – who admitted to owning an Apple tablet – the iPad is probably responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs.
In a speech given last Friday the 15th, Jackson Jr. proclaimed: “Now, Borders bookstores are closing stores because why would you still need to go to the store? (...) Just download your book, your newspaper, your magazine.” The politician goes on to say that the iPad has replaced printed books in schools and that people who work in publishing, bookstores, and libraries will likely lose their jobs.
According to Jackson, Steve Jobs has been doing good things, thanks to the success of the iPad, but he points out that the tablet is produced in China, which doesn't guarantee "job protection here in America." The politician's position seems to contradict the thinking of members of his party, who advocate for technology. In January, President Barack Obama – also a Democrat – declared the country "a nation of Google and Facebook."
