The Charlie Sheen phenomenon
The actor's latest stunt involves hiring someone with tiger blood through social media for an eight-week job.
Charlie Sheen launched a challenge to his more than 2,4 million Twitter followers: “I’m looking for a winner, a fellow tiger. Fill out the form here.” The short message posted on Monday on the controversial actor's profile acted like wildfire on the internet. It was replicated thousands of times on the microblog by more than 70 people from 181 countries.
The chosen candidate will have to work full-time for eight weeks during the summer. No further details about the position are available, nor is there any specification of the salary range, only that they will receive scholarships in the future. Despite the lack of information, legions of supporters of the former star of the series Two and a Half Men created the hashtag (a term for keyword used on the social network). #tigerblood to become a trending topic on the site, in other words, to be one of the most talked-about subjects in that universe.
The announcement comes shortly after CBS canceled the show's eighth season at the end of February and fired Sheen, who until then had been the highest-paid actor on television, earning around €1,5 million per episode. The network made the decision after the actor insulted the show's creator, Chuck Lorre, during an interview on Alex Jones's show on public radio. United StatesThe cancellation cost Sheen $4,8 million in unpaid taxes, which triggered his fury.
The actor decided to take CBS to court and turn his dismissal into a self-promotion opportunity. On the same day he ended his working relationship with the network, he celebrated on the rooftop of the Live Nation building in Beverly Hills, drinking a red liquid whose bottle read "tiger blood," while holding a machete. The gesture became a trademark on social media, where he is trying to revive his career.
The dismissal has already brought several achievements to Charlie Sheen. On March 3rd, the actor entered the Guinness Book of Records for being the Twitter user who reached one million followers in the shortest time. Another feat was the sale of a book of poetry that he had self-published in 1990 – A Piece of My Mind – for the paltry sum of $5 on Amazon.com.
