'Brazil, democracy, and Lula were victims on January 8th. That is the only truth,' says Míriam Leitão.

A journalist calls the opposition's stance "unbelievable," stating that they "maintain the delusional version that it is Lula who has to explain himself. Bolsonaro conspired in broad daylight. Everyone saw it."

247 - Journalist Míriam Leitão, in an article published in the newspaper The Globe This Sunday (23), she states that "Brazil, democracy, and the Lula (PT) government were victims in the episode of January 8. This is the only factual truth." However, she points out: "incredibly, the government is allowing itself to be on the defensive, due to the series of strategic errors it has committed."

"I shouldn't have put the gallery He should have analyzed all those scenes quickly, in secrecy, to understand the behavior of each of the officers and not be surprised, as he was last week. He should have made an immediate and... complete change in the Institutional Security Office"It is one of the most active centers of the anti-democratic conspiracy," says Miriam Leitão.

She reaffirms that "what happened on January 8th was an attempted coup d'état. That is unequivocal. No one should have to write this again as I am doing now. Imagine what would have happened if President Lula had not immediately returned to Brasília, if he had not mobilized all the powers and the federation in defense of democracy? Imagine if the coup plotters had managed to cause a contagion effect in other capitals? Everything became extremely fragile in those tense hours of January 8th. A government, at the end of its first week, still celebrating the echoes of the inauguration festivities, was attacked by vandals who had been incited by the former president for four years and nurtured in front of Army barracks. Criminals attacked all the symbols of the Republic's power with destructive fury. Imagine if Lula had accepted the proposal to sign a decree of Guarantee of Law and Order? He would have become a shadow in his own government, tutored by the military."

She calls "unbelievable" the opposition's attempt to "reverse the burden of proof and uphold the delusional version that the victim is to blame and that it is the Lula government that has to explain itself. Bolsonaro conspired in broad daylight. Everyone saw it."

"It was the sum of Lula's government's successes that prevented the worst. But the mistakes made since then have placed him in the Kafkaesque situation he is in now," says Míriam, speaking about the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) that is to be established in the National Congress to investigate the events of January 8th and which, if dominated by Bolsonaro supporters, could turn against Lula's administration and against the truth. "The government needs to react, show political competence to make the truth prevail in the CPI and, at the same time, negotiate the processing of matters important to the administration's project, such as the fiscal framework. The struggle of January 8th is not over. Those who committed crimes, or colluded with criminals, want to change history. If the lie prevails over what that moment was, it is not the government that will suffer, it is democracy that will be at risk once again."
