The appointment of a friend of Bolsonaro's son to the Federal Police is 'scandalous,' says Folha in an editorial.
In an editorial, Folha de S.Paulo states that "the intention to control the police force became clear and originates" from Jair Bolsonaro, after he appointed Alexandre Ramagem, a personal friend of his family, to head the Federal Police. Bolsonaro, the newspaper says, "needs to be restrained by the institutions."
247 "Scandalous is an understatement to describe Ramagem's promotion to head the Federal Police in this context," says the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper. Editorial"Although precautions, such as those taken by Alexandre de Moraes in prohibiting the replacement of the delegates conducting the fake news investigation, may prevent specific damages, the intention to control the police force was clear and comes from the President of the Republic."
According to the text, "not surprisingly, actions to annul the appointment of the nominee for director-general of the Federal Police began to reach the federal courts, including the Supreme Court."
"In the playbook of neo-authoritarianism currently in vogue in some parts of the world, the slow co-opting of independent state bodies by the tentacles of the would-be leader stands out," he says. "It needs to be contained by the institutions."
