The plan involves spreading fake news, such as claims that the polls are false and that Bolsonaro is therefore ahead. It also alleges collusion between the courts of the Judiciary – the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) and the STF (Supreme Federal Court), especially Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who presides over the Electoral Court – and the PT (Workers' Party), the party of his main opponent.
A survey conducted at the request of Estadão by the Digital Humanities Laboratory of the Federal University of Bahia (LABHD/UFBA), in partnership with the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and InternetLab, shows that, in the last 90 days, one in four messages (26%) about elections in pro-Bolsonaro groups on Telegram mention terms related to electoral fraud — the main topic mentioned when discussing the election in the country.
The report states that 56,7 messages were shared from January to September 20th of this year across 185 groups and 524 channels (which function as broadcast lists) monitored by the team. Mentions of fraud were recorded in 164 groups and 293 channels – with a growing trend in the dissemination of these messages from June until reaching a daily peak in September. The content of the messages urges followers not to "passively accept" the election results and encourages the Armed Forces to act in any scenario that does not result in Bolsonaro's election.
