247 – The Claro mobile phone operator is being sued by the Consumer Protection Department, an agency linked to the Ministry of Justice, for improper billing of services. The lawsuit was filed this Tuesday, the 24th, to investigate the allegations. If the infractions are confirmed, the operator may have to pay up to R$ 6,2 million. From the date of notification, the company has ten days to present its defense.
The service Claro is accused of improperly charging for is Club Dance, which offers music and messaging. It allegedly automatically renews for customers without their request. The complaints were filed by the Tocantins state consumer protection agency (Procon), which confirmed improper charges for several consumers in the state.
"After examining these documents and hearing, in a preliminary manner, from the company, the department concluded that there are indications of violations of basic consumer rights and abusive commercial practices in the provision of services," the agency stated in a note.
