Cazuza's mother denounces fake news spread by the Minister of Education against her son.

Lucinha Araújo, mother of the singer and songwriter Cazuza, who died in 1990 from HIV, wrote an open letter to Ricardo Vélez Rodríguez, the Minister of Education, protesting the minister's false use of a phrase attributed to her son. She says that in an interview with "Veja" magazine, Vélez stated that Cazuza "preached that freedom is about groping a police officer"; however, Cazuza never said that. It was a joke from a comedy program.

She says that in an interview with "Veja" magazine, Vélez stated that Cazuza "preached that freedom is about groping a police officer." However, Cazuza never said that. It was a joke from a comedy show.

According to Ancelmo Góis' column, published in the newspaper O GloboLucinha wrote: "If my son were alive, I'm sure he would beg me for mercy (...) But since I am not him and my age has taken away any leniency, I consider it unacceptable that a person occupying the position he occupies would not be concerned with citing a public figure without any commitment to the truth."

The column also reports that "LLucinha — who, since her son's death 28 years ago, has dedicated herself to volunteer work supporting HIV-positive children, young people, and adults — recalls that Cazuza was the first public figure in Brazil to acknowledge his HIV-positive status, "which made the fight for universal access to treatment possible, making Brazil a country recognized worldwide for its AIDS program."

And she adds: "In the end, she wrote that she would like to leave open the possibility for the minister to publicly retract his statement, 'so that it will not be necessary to take legal action.'"
