247 - Journalist Florestan Fernandes Jr., in conversation with TV 247 this Sunday (12), stated that former president Lula "will not ask for mercy" from Rede Globo, commenting on the article by journalist Ascânio Seleme this Saturday (11) which says that it is time to forgive the PT.

The article is seen as yet another nod from Grupo Globo to the PT (Workers' Party) and former president Lula, who was heavily criticized by the network, but Florestan warns: "Lula will not forgive, forget it. A person is not humiliated in the way he was. He was humiliated. The greatest president the country has ever had, the most popular president in Brazilian history. The man who proved in government that it was possible for Brazil to be different from what it was. Brazil was a country accepted throughout the world, everyone was revering Brazil. Brazil was being seen as a path for many people."

"He demonstrated that it's possible to preserve capitalism and improve it, but they don't want to improve capitalism, they don't want a European-style capitalism, like Sweden, Denmark, or France. They want to preserve poverty, exclusion, humiliation, and greed. It's an elite, as Jessé Souza says, of backwardness, that likes to have that idea of subalterns. In Brazil, the poor are despised, and when a proposal arises that tries to include these people, to lift them out of poverty and place the country on a level of civility, look what happened. They went there and arrested him without proof, without anything. Where's Lula's suitcase of money? Where's Lula's foreign bank account? To say he was the head of a criminal gang, what is that?", he added.
