247 - Former President Lula released a statement this morning denying the main headline of the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo this Tuesday, the 24th. The report states that President Dilma Rousseff had agreed to alter Provisional Measures 664 and 665, which deal with labor benefits and are part of the fiscal adjustment promoted by the economic team headed by Minister Joaquim Levy.

"Contrary to what was published this Tuesday (24) by the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was not informed or spoke with President Dilma Rousseff about changes to provisional measures 664 and 665. We regret the publication of incorrect information by the newspaper without due fact-checking," says the note from the Lula Institute.

According to Estadão, the matter was discussed at a meeting at the Institute this Monday, the 23rd, which was attended by, in addition to Lula, the president of the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT), Vagner Freitas, Senator Paulo Paim (PT-RS), and the national president of the PT, Rui Falcão. The decision to alter the measures, also according to Estadão, has already been communicated to the PT.

For many members of the PT (Workers' Party), Provisional Measures 664 and 665 were the main culprits behind the difficulties faced by the president at the beginning of her second term, even surpassing the outrage caused by the corruption scandals at Petrobras.
