Legal experts from the Prerogativas Group speak out in defense of Fórum's journalism.
"Fórum is one of the most important journalistic websites in Brazil, with almost twenty years in the communications market," the group of legal experts points out, regarding the inclusion of the outlet in a list produced for the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into Fake News.
Prerogatives Group - The Prerogativas group was surprised on March 3rd by a report in O Globo that mentions the existence of a list produced for the CPMI of Fake News with media outlets supposedly involved in spreading false news, among them Revista Fórum.
Fórum is one of the most important journalistic websites in Brazil, with almost twenty years in the communications market, producing high-quality and reference content in various areas, especially politics, culture, and human rights. It has a team of respected journalists and columnists who contribute substantially to enriching public debate in Brazil.
Therefore, for us at Prerrogativas, it is an attack against freedom of the press and the diversity of information that a committee of the National Congress produces this type of document to attack a media outlet like Fórum. This practice dates back to the times of censorship and dictatorship and makes us believe that there is an ongoing persecution of the independent Brazilian press.
Depending on the members of the Prerogatives Group, this attempt will not succeed. We will defend Fórum and other media outlets for their quality and independence, with a firm voice where necessary, because we know that a country without a free press and without a wide range of voices is not a democratic country.
