Janio: TSE owes explanations regarding the creation of the Network.
A columnist for Folha de S.Paulo says the numbers don't add up when it comes to the signatures needed to meet the requirement of 492 voter endorsements, "whether regarding the quantity collected, the acceptance or rejection of the endorsements"; for him, Marina Silva's party would play a prominent role, in representation and political combat, that no other party has.
247 – Folha columnist Janio de Freitas defended Rede, the party Marina Silva is trying to register to run in the 2014 elections. According to him, the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) owes explanations about several aspects of the convoluted attempt at its creation. Read more:
Marina's problem
The TSE (Superior Electoral Court) owes explanations regarding several aspects of the convoluted attempt to create the Network.
So many parties driven by mere financial opportunism—certainly, most of the three dozen that exist—and yet Marina Silva is facing poorly explained difficulties in registering her own party, Rede Sustentabilidade, in time to use it to run for President.
The numbers don't add up when it comes to the signatures needed to meet the requirement of 492 voter endorsements. This is evident in the quantity collected, the acceptance or rejection of signatures by electoral offices, and their alleged slowness. Furthermore, there's the supposedly high number of rejections by the offices without justification.
In the case of Marina and Rede, the same thing that suddenly befell Paulo Pereira da Silva, Paulinho da Força, and his intended Solidariedade party did not happen. Everything had gone very well for them; they were already working on forming the regional directorates when, as could be predicted, frauds appeared. The list of Chamber employees, with their respective data, inflated Paulinho's initiative with solidarity payments that were never given to him.
In many respects, Marina Silva is an enigma. Despite having been a presidential candidate, to this day it is unknown what she thinks about what are perhaps the majority of relevant national issues. But in those areas where she is easily identified, in some even with an undeniable leadership position, her party would play a prominent role, in representation and political combat, that no other party performs. The PT, because it is no longer a party of action; the PSDB, because its positions would not be in the interest of the financial sector and big capital; the PMDB, because it is the PMDB. Oh, and as for chlorophyll issues, the Green Party, because it has turned yellow.
The Superior Electoral Court's decision regarding Marina's party, to be made in the coming days, is not just another matter of creating yet another party. It will not be a case of concessions that violate the requirements of the legislation, if such concessions are requested (the appeal to the Supreme Court has already been dismissed). But the TSE owes explanations on several aspects of the convoluted attempt to create the Rede party. Above all, it needs to clarify, and possibly take action on, what is actually happening in the electoral offices, which are its responsibility through the regional courts, which are also indebted for public explanations.
AWARD
It is impossible to know the reason for the outcry when Sister Dorothy Stang was murdered in early 2005, if her life was considered worthless. This is indicated by the fourth trial of the mastermind behind the murder. Despite being sentenced to 30 years, landowner and rancher Vitalmiro Bastos de Moura is free from prison.
IN TIME
Ives Gandra Martins' attitude was very commendable, and his interview was highly significant. He overshadowed his extreme ideological differences with José Dirceu with his conviction as a jurist that "there is no evidence against him." His warning that the Supreme Court, by innovating with the "command responsibility" theory to convict Dirceu, is creating widespread legal uncertainty, is one that deserves reflection while there is still time.
