Fascist groups spread fake news against Lula using a fake Economist cover.

An image is circulating in WhatsApp groups claiming that former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was elected by "The Economist" magazine as "the most corrupt president in world history"; this is a lie: the image with the Workers' Party member on the magazine cover is fake; the last two covers of the magazine, published in August (12 and 17), feature US President Donald Trump and ignition engines.

247 An image is circulating in WhatsApp groups claiming that former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was named by "The Economist" magazine as "the most corrupt president in world history." This is false. The image of the Workers' Party member on the magazine cover is fake.

In addition to featuring a cover with the caption "The man who broke a nation" and calling Lula a "wolf in sheep's clothing," the "news" includes statements from a supposed legal analyst for the magazine named Bronwen Chester.

The last two covers of the magazine, published in August (12 and 17), feature US President Donald Trump and ignition engines.

UOL also investigated the case and found no reports listing Lula as the most corrupt person in history.
