Gaspari: Federal Prosecutor's Office errors threaten Lava Jato.
Journalist Elio Gaspari warned this Sunday, the 31st, that if the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office applies what he called the "dry dung theory" to the conflicts existing in the testimonies of confessed defendants in Lava Jato, the investigations may end in nothing; the journalist recalls that the prosecutors did not want to hold a confrontation between the money launderer Alberto Yousseff and the former director of Petrobras Paulo Roberto Costa to discover who was responsible for the contradictions in their testimonies; "All that is needed is to poison the process," says Gaspari and warns: "Edemar Cid Ferreira waited nine years, but had his conviction annulled."
247 - Journalist Elio Gaspari warned this Sunday, the 31st, that if the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office applies what he called the "dry dung theory" to the conflicts existing in the testimonies of confessed defendants in Lava-Jato, the investigations may end in nothing. "Dry dung is the kind of thing that the more you stir it, the worse it gets: 'Stir it, it stinks'," he says.
"From the beginning of Lava Jato, all the crooks need is turmoil in the investigation. They know what they did. Only a madman could expect an acquittal in the first instance. All that's needed is to poison the process," says the journalist.
Gaspari cites as an example dialogues that occurred during a deposition by operator Alberto Youssef. Prosecutor Andrey Borges mentioned to Youssef that there were contradictions between his narrative and that of his "friend Paulinho".
In his testimony, former Petrobras director Paulo Roberto Costa mentioned transactions involving requests for payments of R$ 2 million for the campaigns of President Dilma Rousseff in 2014 and Roseana Sarney in Maranhão in 2010. He allegedly forwarded the requests, brought by former minister Antonio Palocci and Senator Edison Lobão, to Youssef.
"Youssef says that these requests did not happen and offered himself for a confrontation with 'Paulinho'. One of the two is lying and both signed agreements that expire if they are caught in deceptions. The identity of the person who exposed the 'dry dung doctrine' is unknown, and they don't want to delve into the matter. It could have been a prosecutor, and it's impossible that it was a passerby. Several days have passed, the owner of the voice has not been identified, and the confrontation has not been announced," reports Elio Gaspari.
The journalist pointed out another mistake made by the prosecutors. "The 'dried dung' doctrine is toxic. Based on a video from the Federal Police, the Public Prosecutor's Office requested and obtained an extension of the detention of Marice, João Vaccari's sister-in-law. Mistake, the recording showed Giselda, the woman's sister."
And he warns: "Life is an art, making mistakes is part of it, but the delay in condemning the 'dry dung doctrine' and identifying its author is more than a minor detail. Edemar Cid Ferreira waited nine years, but his conviction was overturned."
