Forum: The failure of the Lava Jato film, even in Curitiba, exposes the press to ridicule.
"The headline in Gazeta do Povo, from Curitiba, says it all: 'Without the expected attendance, film about Lava Jato premieres well-received by the public.' This has been the case throughout Brazil and even in the capital of Paraná, the city where Operation Lava Jato was based. Cinemas with reduced audiences, probably proportional to those who are enthusiastic about the witch hunt that the undertaking led by Sérgio Moro has become," says an article in Revista Fórum.
Forum Magazine (Julinho Bittencourt) - The headline in Gazeta do Povo, from Curitiba, says it all: “Without the expected attendance, film about Lava Jato premieres well-received by the public.” This has been the case throughout Brazil and even in the capital of Paraná, the city where Operation Lava Jato was based. Cinemas with reduced audiences, probably proportional to those who are enthusiastic about the witch hunt that the undertaking led by Sérgio Moro has become.
Not content with just the headline, the newspaper did what was expected of it. It sought excuses for the film's failure and enthusiastic reactions to the few viewers. Right from the opening, the childish explanation exposes the meager numbers:
“With the help of a beautiful sunny afternoon, the film Polícia Federal – A Lei é Para Todos premiered this Thursday (7) in 16 cinemas in Curitiba and the metropolitan region.
In the audience, there weren't as many people as the producers perhaps expected. At the first commercial screening, in room 3 of the Espaço Itaú (with a capacity of 208 seats), about 60 people paid to see the film. At the Cinesystem in Shopping Curitiba, the occupancy rate was practically the same.
What follows in the article is a series of interviews filled with clichés about the film's quality, opened with yet another flimsy excuse:
"However, the film received a warm and supportive reception from those who attended the first screening."
Ultimately, it seems that enthusiasm for Moro and his associates' campaign is beginning to wane across the country, and even at their headquarters.
Neither the series of accusations from the previous day nor the mega national launch during Independence Week managed to lift the spectacular and clumsy pamphlet by director Marcelo Antunez and his clandestine investors.
And, as with any reversal of expectations, it only goes downhill from there.
