Eliane Cantanhêde defends Paulo Freire against Bolsonaro.
"While President Jair Bolsonaro shocks the world by praising the bloodthirsty Alfredo Stroessner and Augusto Pinochet, the Bolsonaro supporters attack the memory, legacy, and symbolism of one of the most prestigious Brazilians in the world: the educator Paulo Freire," writes journalist Eliane Cantanhêde in her column titled "Between Good and Evil," published in the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo; a conservative, Cantanhêde supported the campaign against the PT for years, the coup against Dilma, and Bolsonaro's candidacy against Haddad.

"And who was Paulo Freire? A Catholic and humanist who dedicated his entire life to education as an instrument of social inclusion, equality, and the emancipation of peoples. His goal, or his dream, was to educate and empower millions of Brazilian adults who had never had access to school, healthcare, or a future," he states.
According to the journalist, the philosopher's method, "recognized worldwide, respected the peculiarities and habitat of the students. He taught bricklayers to read using the word 'brick'. Dozens of countries paid him homage and still do today, more than twenty years after his death. To the world, a revolutionary educator. To the military regime in his own country, a dangerous communist."
"Elected with 57 million votes, exuding unquestionable legitimacy, President Jair Bolsonaro should do the opposite of what he has been doing: reject bloodthirsty and despicable dictators and revere an educator who dedicated his entire life to good, to the underprivileged."
