Doria is full of praise for Eike Batista in a 2011 interview.

The mayor of São Paulo, João Doria Jr. (PSDB), lavished praise on the then-successful businessman Eike Batista in an interview he conducted with Eike for his program Show Business on Band in 2011. In the first part of the conversation, Doria showered Eike and the then-governor of Rio, Sérgio Cabral, with compliments, whom the mayor described as his "friend since childhood." Doria also stated that "Rio belongs to Brazil, and Eike also belongs to Brazil!" and agreed with Eike that "five years were enough to change his opinion about former president Lula."
