'Against Marina, the traditional wing wants to maintain control of the PSB'

According to journalist Kennedy Alencar, the group led by Roberto Amaral, the interim president of the PSB since the death of Eduardo Campos, "wants to hold an internal election in order to consolidate its power against the Pernambuco wing and against Marina's growing strength within the party, especially if she is elected president of the Republic"; the election will take place next Monday.

247 - The faction led by Roberto Amaral, the interim president of the PSB since the tragic death of Eduardo Campos on August 13th, brings together traditional party figures who want, through an internal election, to "consolidate their power against the Pernambuco faction and against Marina's growing strength within the party, especially if she is elected president of the Republic," assesses Kennedy Alencar.

The chances of Amaral and Carlos Siqueira, the party's secretary-general who abandoned Marina's campaign on the day she was officially nominated as a presidential candidate, being elected president are "high," according to the journalist. Against him, Beto Albuquerque, Marina's vice-presidential candidate, tried unsuccessfully to postpone the internal election until after the first round. "The group considers it a risk to postpone the internal election until December. If Marina is elected president, she will have enough power to challenge Amaral and Siqueira," Kennedy observes.

The group from Pernambuco, with Marina's backing, wants to place Geraldo Júlio, the mayor of Recife, in the position of party president. "In a potential Marina government, controlling the leadership of the party to which she is affiliated would be an important position of power. It's the first party power struggle already taking into account a possible government led by the PSB candidate," writes the columnist.
