"Nothing is more useless or stupid, with respect to Brazilian public life, than betting on a moderate version of Bolsonaro," says the journalist.

247 - The journalist Reinaldo Azevedo In his column on UOL, he states that "the censorship by some members of the far-right of the stupidity" of Congressman Douglas Garcia (Republicanos), who assaulted journalist Vera Magalhães during a debate in São Paulo, is just "tactical nicety." "Nothing is more useless or stupid, with respect to Brazilian public life, than betting on a moderate Bolsonarism. This ethical distortion only exists because its enthusiasts are open, declared, and proud adherents of political incivility," he emphasizes.

“They don’t even recognize the right of those who disagree to exist publicly. Under the pretext of defending freedom of expression, they constantly seek to silence others—including the professional press. And their tactic is well-known: intimidation,” the journalist concludes.

According to Reinaldo Azevedo, "the president has unequivocally directed the effort to 'eliminate' adversaries, turning them into enemies. This has been a constant since the 2018 election campaign. Sectors of the press and the Public Prosecutor's Office themselves have been silent in their response, when they are not complicit."

Reinaldo also notes that Garcia attended the debate as part of the quota for former minister Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), chosen by Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to run for governor of São Paulo. “Keeping an eye on the polls – both those concerning himself and the president – he seems to be distancing himself from his boss. He publicly expressed solidarity with Vera and harshly criticized the reckless behavior,” he emphasizes.

According to him, "the lunatics have their catastrophic scenarios, and they all revolve around Lula's victory. But there are those who envision a milder version of the disaster: the Workers' Party candidate in the Presidency, but a Bolsonaro supporter leading the government of São Paulo, a hypothesis, then, in the minds of the fanatics, in which the Palácio dos Bandeirantes (São Paulo state government headquarters) would transform into an apparatus or a parallel government." "There is no moderate Bolsonarism, but opportunism exists everywhere, including in the worst families – with their associates," he concludes.
