Cantanhêde says that Aécio has become a hot potato for the Senate.
Journalist Eliane Cantanhêde stated this Friday, the 13th, that Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB) has become a "hot potato" for the Senate, following the Supreme Federal Court's decision that his removal from office must be submitted to the Legislative House; "The maneuver to transform the vote in the Senate plenary doesn't even seem like a desperate attempt to change the result, but only to 'protect' the senators from their own votes. Are they going to leave the evidence against Aécio as is? Do they make deals amongst themselves and not want their voters to know how they vote?", the columnist questions.
247 - Journalist Eliane Cantanhêde stated this Friday, the 13th, that Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB) has become a "hot potato" for the Senate, following the Supreme Federal Court's decision that his removal from office must be submitted to the Legislative House.
"For now, it has ceased to be an immediate problem for the Supreme Court and has become the main problem for the Senate itself, which, by saying 'no' to his removal and to the First Chamber of the Supreme Court next Tuesday, will be forced to find its own solution for Aécio. In the Ethics Committee? The history of decisions there is clearly corporatist," says Eliane.
"The maneuver to transform the vote in the Senate plenary doesn't seem like a desperate attempt to change the result, but merely to 'protect' the senators from their own votes. Are they going to let the evidence against Aécio go unpunished? Do they make deals amongst themselves and not want their voters to know how they vote?", questions the columnist from Estado de S. Paulo.
According to her, despite this, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for the politician. "Aécio survives now, but he has an inexorable encounter with the Justice system; the Senate is free from the accusation of confronting the Supreme Court, but it is precisely the house of the three champions of investigations with privileged jurisdiction; and the Supreme Court split in half to resolve the impasse with the Senate, but, sooner or later, it will have to judge not only Renan Calheiros, Romero Jucá and Aécio Neves, but the other investigated parliamentarians as well."
