Forum Magazine - In an interview given to journalist Mariana Godoy on RedeTV!, federal deputy Jair Bolsonaro (PSC-RJ) is questioned about economic issues, only spouts nonsense and generates a lot of buzz on social media, in addition to having his answers challenged by the presenter.
In the excerpt in question, Godoy hands Bolsonaro a question from a viewer regarding the "macroeconomic tripod." The pre-candidate answers the question indirectly and deflects, saying that his potential Minister of Finance will speak on his behalf about economics.
Mariana then asks if he is already assembling a team and if he is already "thinking about some names." Immediately afterwards, the congressman replies: "What people demand of me in terms of understanding economics, then they would have to demand knowledge of medicine: I'll appoint the Minister of Health. They have to have an understanding of the Armed Forces: I'll appoint the Minister of Defense. An understanding of agriculture: I'll appoint the Minister of Agriculture. So it's an exaggeration in that part. You can see, of the five military presidents, which one of them had a degree in economics? None. And they brought Brazil from the 49th to the 8th largest economy in the world."
At that moment, the presenter confronts Bolsonaro's response regarding the figures he gives about the economy during the military regime: "Huh? No, they left Brazil with very high inflation, they made the external debt so big that it ended up...".
The congressman then gives an answer talking about inflation and follows up with another subject, commenting on the infrastructure built during the years of the regime.
The video with the most shared excerpt on Twitter was released by Rio de Janeiro city councilman David Miranda (PSOL), a political opponent of Bolsonaro.
