Bernardo Mello Franco: "Bolsonaro needs to be tried and punished for the crimes he committed."
"A pardon for Bolsonaro's crimes would not pacify anything — it would only serve as a reward and incentive for recidivism," wrote the journalist from O Globo.
247 - The journalist Bernardo Mello Franco, in his column in the newspaper The Globe, argued that Jair Bolsonaro (PL) “needs to be judged and punished for the crimes he committed”.
“While in power, the captain did everything to avoid impeachment and evade the police. On the political front, he bought the complicity of the Speaker of the House with billions from the secret budget. On the legal front, he appointed an indifferent and subservient Attorney General. Without the protection of Arthur Lira and Augusto Aras, he will have to answer for his actions. There will be no shortage of grounds to prosecute and judge him,” he wrote.
Listing a series of crimes committed by Bolsonaro, the journalist pointed out that "allies of the captain have already discussed different maneuvers to prevent him from being punished in the coming years."
“Temer even proposed an 'amnesty for the past,' under the pretext of pacifying the country. Forgiving the crimes of the dictatorship was what allowed the return of the military coup. A pardon for Bolsonaro's crimes would not pacify anything—it would only serve as a reward and incentive for recidivism,” he concluded.
