The Australian government has announced the launch of an independent inquiry into the country's online and print media, focusing on regulation and examining the impact of technological change on business models.
The government believes it is its duty "to ensure that regulatory processes and industry structures are strong enough to support the continuity of a healthy, independent media that is able to fulfill its essential democratic purpose and operate in the public interest," Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said in a statement.
The investigation will be led by former Federal Court Judge Ray Finkelstein and is expected to present its report to the government by February 28th of next year. This information comes from Dow Jones. (Hélio Barboza)
