Bolsonaro's attack on the press is futile, says Folha's director.

Journalist Maria Cristina Frias, Editor-in-Chief of Folha de S.Paulo, argued this Sunday, the 10th, that President Jair Bolsonaro's attacks on the newspaper will not reduce the number of complaints against the government; "By treating the press with contempt and aggression, he tries to undermine this effort and encourages disrespect and violence against journalists among his followers, which is abominable and dangerous—besides being useless, because we will continue to do our work with perseverance and restlessness," she says.

247 - Journalist Maria Cristina Frias, Editor-in-Chief of Folha de S. Paulo, argued this Sunday, the 10th, that President Jair Bolsonaro's attacks on the newspaper will not produce any effect on reducing the number of complaints against the government. 

"The Bolsonaro government has demonstrated a particular difficulty in understanding the role of the newspaper, which is to illuminate debates on collective problems with well-researched and substantiated information, to monitor what politicians are doing, and to commit to defending democracy and factors that lead to the country's development," said Maria Cristina Frias, who has been in the position for six years.

"By treating the press with contempt and aggression, he tries to undermine this effort and encourages disrespect and violence against journalists among his followers, which is abominable and dangerous—as well as useless, because we will continue to do our work with perseverance and restlessness," she says.
