After regretting his support for Moro, Padilha is urged to correct the series The Mechanism.
Brazilian filmmaker José Padilha is being pressured on social media to issue a correction to the Netflix series "The Mechanism," which portrays Operation Lava Jato, following an article in which he harshly criticizes former judge Sérgio Moro, whose anti-crime package he classifies as "pro-militia"; "When will he record the correction for 'The Mechanism'? I'm waiting," writes journalist Rita Lisauskas; "We need a film that shows the coup against Dilma and the injustice against Lula, the true Mechanism. Then the 'mea culpa' will be practical," argues congresswoman Gleisi Hoffmann; "They elected a fascist and now they're jumping ship," highlights actor José de Abreu.
247 - Filmmaker José Padilha is being pressured on social media to make a correction to the Netflix series "O Mecanismo," which portrays Operation Lava Jato, following an article in Folha de S. Paulo in which Padilha criticizes former judge Sérgio Moro, Minister of Justice and Public Security.
Several journalists, influencers, and opinion leaders criticize Padilha and demand concrete action from the filmmaker after the "discovery" of abuses committed by the former Lava Jato judge. The profile of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who was portrayed as corrupt by the series, even though he was convicted without evidence by Moro, said that Padilha would have a more astonished reaction upon reading Moro's sentence against him (read more).
In an article for Folha, Padilha, who directed Elite Squad and the series The Mechanism, says he made a mistake regarding Moro's "conduct." "Now, the reader knows that I have always supported Operation Lava Jato and that I called Sergio Moro a 'ronin samurai,' alluding to the political independence that, I believed, guided his conduct. Well, I want to acknowledge the mistake I made," writes Padilha, after listing five points about the actions of the militias.
“I say this because there is no other explanation: Sergio Moro pretends not to know what a militia is because he has lost his independence and today works for the Bolsonaro family,” he reports, before classifying Moro's anti-crime pact as a “pro-militia package.”

José Padilha's problem is the same as that of many people who unfortunately understand nothing about politics and want to give their opinion.

First you support the hoax. Then you make a fortune producing a Netflix series saying the hoax is real. Then you say, "Oh, it was actually a hoax." I'll take you seriously if you return the money you made from "The Mechanism," Padilha.
