247 - The Brazilian Press Association (ABI) released a statement this Sunday defending the distribution of soup to the most needy, given the increasing poverty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Read the note:

With the Covid-19 outbreak and the need for people to stay home to prevent deaths from multiplying exponentially, the homeless population, already vulnerable, is left entirely unprotected.

Thus, the number of people who simply have nothing to eat is growing.

In this context, it is necessary to go beyond the necessary economic measures to support the poorest, which have already been approved in Congress, and develop other initiatives to address the problem quickly and without bureaucracy.

In this context, the Brazilian Press Association (ABI) proposes an emergency measure that should last as long as the exceptional situation the country is experiencing persists: that the federal government, state governments, and municipalities immediately organize, in a rapid and decentralized manner, the free distribution of soup kitchens to those in need at previously designated street locations, taking due care to avoid crowding.

In defense of life, it's time to create the "Soup Kitchen Now" program throughout the entire country.
