Winter has arrived, and with it comes new things; check the weather forecast.
The season began on Friday night (20) and is expected to register lower temperatures and more stable weather compared to recent years.
247 - Winter 2025 officially began at 23:42 pm on Friday (20) and will continue until 15:19 pm on September 22. According to information from g1, The season is expected to behave more closely to the normal climate pattern, after years marked by atypical and less severe winters.
The first days of the season should already be marked by cold and rain in much of the country, especially in the South, Southeast, and Midwest regions. Meteorologists predict the possibility of recording the lowest temperatures of the year in the capitals of these regions. Overall, the winter of 2025 should present temperatures and precipitation patterns closer to the historical average, without major extremes.
A more “normal” winter
According to Climatempo, the main factor behind this expectation is the maintenance of neutral conditions in the Pacific Ocean — that is, the absence of El Niño and La Niña. "The trend for the coming months is that neutrality will continue in the Pacific, with a colder bias. Neither El Niño nor La Niña is predicted," the company reported.
On the other hand, the warming of the waters of the Tropical Atlantic may interfere with the climate of the North and Northeast regions, causing the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) to shift earlier. This could bring forward the end of the rainy season in the northern parts of these regions.
The ITCZ is a band near the Equator where the trade winds of the northern and southern hemispheres meet, generating strong atmospheric instability. It is one of the main meteorological systems responsible for rainfall in much of northern and northeastern Brazil, as explained by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).
Month by month: what to expect
July
Despite the above-average temperatures, this doesn't mean there won't be cold weather. The month is expected to be marked by significant temperature variability, with hot and cold days alternating.
Inland states, such as Mato Grosso, Goiás, Maranhão, and Piauí, are expected to experience more significant heat. In the South and Southeast, greater fluctuation is expected, with sharp drops followed by rapid warming.
Rainfall is expected to be concentrated along the coast due to the influence of oceanic cold fronts. In the south-central region, the month tends to be drier. In the north, a more significant reduction in rainfall begins.
August
The second month of winter should bring more intense cold fronts to the South-Central region and rainfall slightly above average. Even so, the overall pattern will be precipitation at or below average, especially in the northern part of the North region, where the month is expected to be particularly dry.
In the interior of the country, above-average temperatures are expected, and there's even a possibility of a heat wave. In the South and Southeast, however, the trend is for lower than usual temperatures.
September
With the end of winter approaching, September tends to have temperatures slightly above average in the Midwest and North.
Rain is expected to gradually return to the Central-West and Southeast regions, with levels at or slightly above average. In the South, however, the volume is expected to be below normal.
In the southern Amazon, rainfall is expected to be above average, while the rest of the North is expected to face a dry transition, with irregular precipitation.
With more balanced ocean conditions and less influence from extreme phenomena, the winter of 2025 promises to restore the typical climate pattern of the season, especially in regions that, in recent years, have experienced atypical seasons.
