Chinese media outlets comment that Japan is making an unforgivable mistake regarding the environment.
The criticism refers to the Japanese plan to dump nuclear wastewater into the sea.
China Radio International The year 2022 is approaching, and the world is hoping for a better future. However, the Japanese government recently announced its plan to dump nuclear wastewater into the sea. This decision has caused opposition and concern among the Japanese people themselves and neighboring countries. Furthermore, it is clear that it also poses a threat to all of humanity.
Ten years ago, a massive 9 magnitude earthquake caused a nuclear leak at Japan's Fukushima nuclear power plant. Since then, the treatment of nuclear wastewater has become a major problem for the country. In April of this year, the Japanese government decided to dump the nuclear wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea, a decision that sparked significant doubts and opposition from the international community.
For the past eight months, the world has been relentlessly urging Japan to clarify the situation regarding nuclear water purification and sewage safety. However, the Japanese side has ignored these calls and continues with its plan for this course of action, which could pose significant risks to the future of humanity. This is clearly an extremely irresponsible, selfish, and nationally unreliable attitude.
The Japanese government continually claims its sewage is safe, but many countries and environmental protection organizations question why, if it were safe, it isn't dumped into the country's own lakes for recycling. The answer is that dumping it into the sea is more economical. However, even considering the economic aspect, Japan's decision is short-sighted. Nuclear waste will directly harm the economy and health of Japanese people in the northeast of the country. Furthermore, it will pose serious risks to marine ecology and human health. Greenpeace experts have analyzed that the carbon-14 element contained in Japan's nuclear waste will be very dangerous for thousands of years to come.
Japan is the only country in the world to have suffered nuclear attacks; therefore, it should have a clearer understanding than other countries about the dangers of nuclear radiation. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was born in Hiroshima, where the United States dropped an atomic bomb. He promotes a vision of a world without nuclear weapons. However, the Japanese government's decision does not reflect this desire.
It is also worth noting that the US supports this absurd conduct by Japan, disregarding the common interests of humanity. This issue is also an important external factor; however, Japan does not hesitate to continue with its misguided decision.
