247 - The arrival of spring began with a striking climatic contrast across much of the country. A mass of polar air maintains intense cold in the South and parts of the Southeast, while moisture circulation causes storms in the Midwest and North. This information comes from... g1 and the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

In the South, this Wednesday morning (24) is freezing and the afternoon remains cold, especially in cities like Porto Alegre, Florianópolis and Curitiba. In the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, the forecast indicates temperatures between 13 °C and 19 °C, with a feeling of cold all day. In Curitiba, the scenario is even more severe, with a minimum of 8 °C and a maximum of 18 °C. In mountainous areas of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, the occurrence of isolated frost in the higher valleys cannot be ruled out. “This polar air that advanced with the first cold front of spring keeps temperatures lower, prolonging the feeling of winter even though the season has already begun,” explains meteorologist César Soares, from Climatempo.

The Southeast also faces low temperatures and persistent rain. In São Paulo, the capital dawns gray and humid, with temperatures ranging between 12°C and 17°C this Wednesday and a tendency to drop to 15°C on Thursday (25). Rio de Janeiro registers a maximum of 26°C today, but the cold front brings rain and drops the thermometers to as low as 17°C on Thursday. In Belo Horizonte, the forecast is for showers and temperatures dropping from 26°C to 19°C until Friday (26). Vitória also enters the humidity corridor, with rainy days and maximums contained between 21°C and 27°C.

Meanwhile, the Central-West region is experiencing a typical spring pattern: heat and showers. Brasília is forecast to have thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, with a high of 26°C. Goiânia follows the same trend, reaching 29°C, while Cuiabá will experience muggy afternoons, with temperatures that could reach 36°C and showers at the end of the day. Campo Grande, outside the humidity corridor, should remain with more stable weather and highs close to 31°C.

In the North, localized storms are affecting Amazonas and Acre, with a risk of heavy rain, especially in the Southwest of the region. In Porto Velho, heavy showers are expected, while Manaus faces muggy conditions, with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 34°C. Belém is also experiencing intense heat, with a high of 33°C, despite cloudy periods.

In the Northeast, the cold front is advancing weakened along the coastal strip between Sergipe and Alagoas, causing brief showers and keeping temperatures between 23°C and 29°C in Maceió and 24°C to 28°C in Aracaju. In Recife and João Pessoa, the instability brings irregular showers and highs close to 30°C. Salvador maintains a pattern of sun and rain, while Fortaleza continues with mostly clear weather, although isolated showers may occur throughout the week.

According to Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology), spring is expected to be marked by above-average heat in much of Brazil and irregular rainfall. Cold fronts are expected to continue advancing through the South, bringing strong winds and new episodes of frost in plateau areas. In the North, instability remains poorly distributed, with a risk of wildfires in low-humidity areas, while the Northeast may register below-average rainfall inland and slightly above-normal accumulations on the coast. In the Central-West and Southeast, rainfall tends to intensify gradually from October onwards, but temperatures should remain high inland, maintaining a muggy feeling.
