Heavy rains are expected to hit 3 states this weekend.
With the influence of the La Niña phenomenon, November is expected to bring plenty of rain.
247 - A large system of atmospheric instabilities is expected to cause heavy rains in the states of São Paulo, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul this weekend. According to Climatempo, cited by CNN Brasil, the accumulated volume between Saturday (1st) and Sunday (2nd) could exceed 100 millimeters in several areas, increasing the risk of flooding and flash floods.
The heaviest rainfall is expected in the capital cities of Curitiba (PR), São Paulo (SP), and Campo Grande (MS), as well as in western and north-central Paraná, south-central and eastern Mato Grosso do Sul, and the western and southern portions of São Paulo, especially in the regions bordering Paraná.
In other areas of these states, rainfall is expected in the form of moderate to heavy showers, mainly during the afternoon and evening. The weather alert is valid from this Saturday, with a tendency to continue throughout Sunday.
According to Climatempo, the atmospheric instabilities result from the combination of humid air present in the region and the warm winds that are blowing again over the three states. "High humidity and heat are basic conditions for the formation of storm clouds," explains the forecast. Furthermore, wind circulation at various levels of the atmosphere should favor the development of large areas of rain.
During Sunday (2), the change in wind circulation should spread the areas of instability, causing the rain to concentrate over the territory of São Paulo. The scenario worries local authorities, since the accumulated rainfall expected in just two days is higher than the average expected for several municipalities at this time of year.
Civil Defense has reinforced its warning about the possibility of flooding, overflowing streams, and landslides in at-risk areas. Residents are advised to monitor weather reports and avoid travel during periods of heavy rain.
With the influence of the La Niña phenomenon, November is expected to bring heavy rainfall to much of the country, especially in the Southeast and South regions, according to Climatempo's forecast.
