247 - The Brazilian government has scheduled a meeting in Belém for early August to revive the OTCA (Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization), which brings together the countries that make up the Amazon region.

The meeting will contribute to defining a unified regional position on development and combating the climate crisis in international forums.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva wants to use the position to be agreed upon at the OTCA meeting to define the line of his speech at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly in September.

The resumption of the OTCA (Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization) is one of Lula's goals in his third term. This body can be used to unify the discourse of Amazonian countries and attract investments to the region within policies to combat deforestation, protect indigenous peoples, and promote development, with the aim of strengthening its position vis-à-vis international organizations and developed countries, which are the ones that most pressure for action in the region, highlights a report from [source name].
