247 - Future Minister for Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara (Psol) stated to Folha de S. Paul that Funai (National Indian Foundation) will be "demilitarized" in his government.
"The military era is over, these are new times. These positions will be filled by indigenous people or by non-indigenous people nominated by indigenous people," he declared.
Under Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) government, Funai was filled with police officers and military personnel in key strategic positions.
The future minister stated that she will remain opposed to the "totally predatory model" of agribusiness and mining, and also spoke to the newspaper.
