"The military era is over. Positions will be filled by indigenous people," says Sônia Guajajara, the future Minister for Indigenous Peoples.

Sônia Guajajara promises a Funai (National Indian Foundation) different from what was seen under the Bolsonaro government, when the foundation was occupied by police and military personnel.

247 - Future Minister for Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara (Psol) stated to Folha de S. Paul that Funai (National Indian Foundation) will be "demilitarized" in his government. 

"The military era is over, these are new times. These positions will be filled by indigenous people or by non-indigenous people nominated by indigenous people," he declared.

Under Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) government, Funai was filled with police officers and military personnel in key strategic positions.

The future minister stated that she will remain opposed to the "totally predatory model" of agribusiness and mining, and also spoke to the newspaper. "We will only have cross-cutting actions with the National Council of Justice (CNJ) to guarantee removal actions and requests for operations that, of course, will have to go through the courts."
