247 - Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) has authorized Petrobras to resume drilling an exploratory well in the Equatorial Margin. The activity had been suspended since the beginning of the year after a drilling fluid leak was identified during the operation.

According to Reuters, the decision was made after evaluating technical analyses and mitigating measures presented by Petrobras to deal with the previously recorded incident.

Activity had been suspended after a leak.

The well was shut down as a preventative measure following a drilling fluid leak. This incident led the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) to demand technical clarifications and the implementation of corrective actions before authorizing the continuation of work in the region.

Technical assessment formed the basis of ANP's decision.

In the document, the regulatory agency stated verbatim: “Considering the technical analyses carried out and the mitigating measures proposed by Petrobras, it was concluded that there is no impediment to the resumption of drilling activities in the aforementioned well, from the date of receipt of this official communication.” The technical conclusion paved the way for formal authorization, provided that the state-owned company fulfills a series of additional requirements established by the agency.

Resumption depends on operational conditions.

Despite the authorization, the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) reported that Petrobras was notified that the resumption of drilling must comply with specific conditions. These include replacing all riser joint seals and providing training for all workers involved in the procedure.

The agency stressed that compliance with these requirements is a necessary condition for the safe continuation of activities at the exploratory well located on the Equatorial Margin.
