Business leaders in the industry are advocating for the postponement of US tariff increases.
In an emergency meeting, the CNI (National Confederation of Industry) discussed with presidents of industry federations from across the country actions against the 50% tariffs announced by Trump.
247 - The president of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), Ricardo Alban, and representatives of the productive sector aligned in defense of a minimum 90-day postponement in the application of the new 50% tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump. The CNI convened an emergency virtual meeting this Monday (14) with the presidents of the industry federations from across the country to discuss the tariff hike.
The preliminary estimate presented during the meeting pointed to a potential loss of at least 110 jobs if the measure comes into effect as announced, in addition to a strong negative impact on GDP.
The three-month timeframe was considered essential so that Brazilian industry could analyze the effects of the measure more thoroughly, as well as seek diplomatic solutions to avoid broader losses.
The meeting also included the participation of the Secretary of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC), Tatiana Lacerda Prazeres, and focused on evaluating the economic and social impacts of the measure.
Vice-President of the Republic, Minister Geraldo Alckmin (MDIC) announced that, this Tuesday (15), the Lula government will have meetings with representatives of agriculture and industry to discuss how to respond to Trump's tariff hikes.
