247 - The Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has already approved R$ 190 billion in over 140 credit operations for the New Industry Brazil. This amount represents 73% of the R$ 259 billion projected for the Bank over the four years of the current government. During an event in Brasília, the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, highlighted that, for the first time since 2017, industry has once again taken the lead in the institution's credit approvals.

"We had strong growth in agribusiness and other sectors, but now industry is regaining prominence. Industrial production grew 3,1% in 2024," said Mercadante. He emphasized that investments include strategic sectors and innovative technologies. "We are betting on disruptive projects, such as Embraer's Eve flying car, sustainable fuel for different modes of transport, innovative medicines, and digitalization," he added.

In addition to advancing credit availability, BNDES launched the BNDES Cidades platform this Tuesday, the 11th, during the Meeting of New Mayors in Brasília. The new website functions as a hub of financial solutions aimed at municipal managers, bringing together credit lines and services available to city halls. The presentation included the participation of the Bank's Socio-environmental Director, Tereza Campello, the Governor of Pará, Hélder Barbalho, and the mayors Eduardo Paes (Rio de Janeiro) and Sebastião Melo (Porto Alegre).

Developed to facilitate municipalities' access to credit, BNDES Cidades allows searches for specific solutions according to the size of the city and the project area. Among the segments covered are climate adaptation, social infrastructure, and digital government. The platform also provides standardized project models for public lighting, school transportation, health, and modernization of public management.

In the first nine months of 2024, BNDES approved R$ 2,13 billion in financing for municipalities, a 1.320% increase compared to the same period in 2022, when R$ 150 million was released. Although the amount is lower than the R$ 2,66 billion recorded between January and September 2023, the volume of credit reflects the expansion of the Bank's support for urban development.
