Marcia Tiburi: Bolsonaro was humiliated by Trump, but he has sadomasochistic followers.
Philosopher explains that Bolsonaro's supporters are proud of their own humiliation.
247 - "Trump's order must be provoking immense pleasure among national sadomasochists. Every sadomasochist is a sycophant: they take pleasure in being humiliated and in humiliating someone else! In this case, Bolsonaro humiliated by Trump, but always humiliating the Brazilian people," posted philosopher Marcia Tiburi on [social media platform - e.g., Twitter]. your twitterLearn more about the case:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House announced on Sunday that it is banning foreigners from traveling to the United States if they have been in Brazil in the past two weeks, two days after the country became the number 2 country in the world in Covid-19 cases.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said the new restrictions will help ensure that foreigners do not bring additional infections to the U.S., but would not apply to the flow of trade between the countries.
Filipe G. Martins, Special Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil for International Affairs, stated on his Twitter account that, by temporarily banning the entry of Brazilians into the US, the American government is following previously established quantitative parameters, which naturally affect a country as populous as Brazil.
"There is nothing specifically against Brazil. Ignore the media hysteria," he added.
Shortly before the White House announcement, Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo stated, also on Twitter, that in a conversation this Sunday with White House representatives, "within the excellent Brazil-US cooperation in the fight against Covid-19," he received the news that US President Donald Trump had ordered the donation of 1.000 ventilators to Brazil.
"A productive partnership between two great democracies," he stated.
U.S. National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien told CBS's 'Face the Nation' program earlier that he hoped the measure could be reconsidered at some point.
"We hope this is temporary, but given the situation in Brazil, we will take all necessary measures to protect the American people," O'Brien said.
Brazil surpassed Russia on Friday to become the second country in the world in coronavirus cases, behind only the United States, with more than 347.000 people infected by the virus, the Ministry of Health reported.
Trump had said on Tuesday that he was considering imposing a travel ban on passengers arriving from Brazil.
"I don't want people coming here and infecting our people. I also don't want people getting sick over there. We're helping Brazil with ventilators... Brazil is having problems, there's no doubt about that," Trump added to reporters at the White House.
O'Brien said the United States will review restrictions for other countries in the Southern Hemisphere on a country-by-country basis.
Trump suspended entry for most travelers from China, where the outbreak began, in January. In early March, he imposed travel restrictions on people coming from Europe.
The new restrictions prevent most non-U.S. citizens who have visited Brazil in the last 14 days from entering the U.S. Exemptions will be granted to green card holders, close relatives of U.S. citizens, and crew members, among other select groups.
