Chinese Embassy in Israel condemns visit by Israeli MP to Taiwan.
Spokesperson criticizes Boaz Toporovsky for violating the one-China principle and jeopardizing bilateral relations.
247 - The Chinese Embassy in Israel released a statement on Sunday (21) strongly condemning the statements and actions of Israeli MP Boaz Toporovsky, of the Yesh Atid party, during his visit to the island of Taiwan. The information was published by the newspaper Global Times based on the official statement from the Chinese diplomatic mission.
According to the embassy spokesperson, Toporovsky ignored warnings and opposition from Beijing, returning to visit Taiwan and making “repeated erroneous remarks on the Taiwan issue.” The statement said the parliamentarian had “seriously violated the one-China principle and undermined the political foundations of China-Israel relations,” becoming “a troublemaker for the healthy development of bilateral ties.”
The One China principle
The spokesperson reaffirmed that “there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory.” He emphasized that the government of the People’s Republic of China is “the only legal government representing all of China” and that the one-China policy constitutes a widely accepted international consensus and a fundamental norm of international relations.
The statement also noted that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the end of World War II, a period in which Taiwan returned to China. "China's sovereignty over Taiwan is beyond dispute," the spokesperson stated.
Criticisms of Toporovsky's stance
During the trip, Toporovsky met with Lai Ching-te, Taiwan's regional leader, whom he referred to as "president," and claimed he was speaking "on behalf of the people of Israel" when thanking the island. The embassy classified such actions as offensive and contrary to... China-Israel Joint Statementin which the Israeli government acknowledges that "Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China."
The spokesperson stated that the parliamentarian “repeatedly violates the one-China policy supported by Israel, acting clearly in the interest of foreign interests.” According to the embassy, his “political credibility is completely destroyed” and he “lacks the legitimacy to represent others.”
Firm warning from Beijing
In a forceful tone, the spokesperson concluded with a direct warning:
“We admonish this deputy not to delude himself into thinking that he can harm China’s core interests and the national sentiments of the Chinese people without paying a price. If he does not step back from the edge of the precipice, he will fall and be shattered.”
The public condemnation reflects Beijing's firm stance against any rapprochement between foreign authorities and Taiwan, an issue considered sensitive and central to Chinese foreign policy.
