247 - Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning responded on Monday (3) to accusations by US President Donald Trump that Beijing was conducting secret nuclear tests. The statement came a day after Trump claimed that China was violating international agreements on the subject.

According to information from the Global TimesMao Ning stated that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a responsible nuclear power, remains committed to peaceful development and global stability. "China adopts a policy of initial non-use of nuclear weapons, maintains a purely defensive nuclear strategy, and strictly adheres to its promise of a moratorium on nuclear tests," the diplomat declared.

Mao also highlighted that the Asian country is willing to cooperate with other nations to strengthen the authority of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). According to her, this cooperation is essential to preserving the international regime of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

The spokesperson took the opportunity to urge the United States to take greater responsibility in fulfilling its international obligations. "We expect the U.S. to seriously fulfill its responsibilities under the CTBT and its own promise of a moratorium on nuclear tests," she stated. She also called on Washington to take "concrete actions to maintain global strategic balance and international stability."

Mao Ning's statements reinforce Beijing's stance of seeking dialogue and multilateral cooperation on global security issues, in contrast to Trump's more confrontational rhetoric, which reignites tensions between the two largest world powers.
