247 - Former minister Walfrido dos Mares Guia has taken over the structure of President Dilma Rousseff's reelection campaign in Minas Gerais, a political stronghold of presidential candidate Aécio Neves (PSDB).

A close friend of Lula, he recently escaped prosecution in the "mensalão tucano" scandal upon turning 70. Walfrido dos Mares Guia will no longer face charges of embezzlement and money laundering in the scheme to divert money from companies to finance the reelection campaign of then-governor Eduardo Azeredo in 1998. The case also involved Marcos Valério, convicted and imprisoned in 2013 for the so-called "mensalão" scandal involving the PT party in 2005.
