After summoning all secretaries to request spending cuts in their respective departments, Governor Jaques Wagner (PT) signed this Thursday (1) decree nº 14.682 of July 31, 2013, which limits expenses on "maintenance, development of projects and activities of the State Secretariats and other bodies linked to the Executive Branch".
The decree is valid for funding the government apparatus in the second half of the year and has already come into effect with its publication in today's Official State Gazette.
According to what is specified in the publication, the objective is to maintain the balance of public accounts in budget execution and to meet the fiscal targets established for this fiscal year.
According to the decree, the agencies must submit to the Planning Secretariat (Seplan) by the 5th of next month an indication of the actions to be subject to contingency measures and their respective values.
The governor's initiative is part of the so-called 'positive agenda' of politicians, whose objective is to meet the popular demands expressed in the demonstrations that took to the streets of Brazil in June, calling for improvements in basic areas of society, an end to corruption, and an end to the misuse of public funds.
