Virtually rejected by the population of São Paulo and by the PSDB party as its presidential candidate, Mayor João Doria may arrive in Maceió in the coming days to collect yet another honorary citizenship title; the proposal is being processed in the city council of the capital; however, on social media, people opposed to the idea are questioning what the politician has actually done to receive such an honor and be called a "Maceió native".
Alagoas 247 - Presidential candidate João Dória, mayor of São Paulo (PSDB), is expected to arrive in Alagoas in the coming days to receive the title of honorary citizen of the city of Maceió. The honor is under discussion at the Mário Guimarães City Hall, following a proposal presented by councilman Chico Filho (PP). On social media, people opposed to the idea are questioning what the politician has actually done to receive such an honor and be called a "Maceió native".
According to Chico Filho, the proposal was made almost a month ago, in response to a request from the Maceió Commercial Association, of which he is a director. When questioned about the reasons that could justify awarding the title, Chico explained that, as a businessman, the politician can do a lot for the capital of Alagoas, just as he did for São Paulo.
"João should disembark soon, when the tribute will be delivered," explained Chico Filho. The forecast is for the 27th. The proposal for the delivery of the title should be considered at the ordinary session this Wednesday afternoon (11). As a rule, the plenary always approves similar proposals presented by its peers.
A member of the best faction of the PSDB party, councilman Zé Márcio also signed the proposal. According to him, João Dória represents a good manager, coming from the business sector and who is dedicating his time to good governance in politics. "Dória's administration is also focused on tourism, on promoting tourism in the Northeast, thus contributing to the development of Maceió," he explained.
Dória is expected to travel throughout Brazil presenting himself to the public as a potential candidate for President of the Republic. In Salvador, before the ceremony that granted him the title of honorary citizen, Dória was hit by an egg thrown by a protester.
Crisis in the PSDB
Last weekend, a Datafolha poll revealed data that will spice up the internal dispute within the PSDB: Residents of São Paulo prefer Governor Geraldo Alckmin as the party's presidential candidate in 2018. 45% consider him the best choice, while 31% indicate Mayor João Dória as their preferred candidate. 20% of those surveyed ruled out both.
